Transcendigital Brings Local Artist Online for National Audience

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Grier Torrence is a local treasure, a working artist who spends his days teaching Studio Art as Head of the Visual Art Department at the prestigious Miss Porter’s School (www.missporters.org) in Farmington. He is a prolific artist whose paintings and drawings span decades of experience and inspiration.

Grier Torrence came to Transcendigital LTD (www.transcendigital.net), the digital marketing agency in Avon, with the goal of making his art accessible to a wider audience. Eager to support the efforts of a member of the local community, Transcendigital’s President, James Barker, put the company’s resources to work on creating www.griertorrence.com, which made its official debut in April of 2005.

Torrence, whose drawings and paintings are displayed in exhibitions primarily in New York and Connecticut, wanted a medium for expanding his audience without having to pack up his collection and travel the country. Transcendigital found a way to take the artist’s work and design a website that was true to the artist’s spirit and identity.

The relationship between the traditional artist and the high-tech world is still evolving. Transcendigital, which fuses the worlds of marketing and technology, provided an atmosphere for Torrence, which he said was “professional and yet very aware of and tuned in to his needs as an artist”. When asked about using the Internet to publicize his work, Torrence commented, “the internet is essential for artists and just as artists adapted to the invention of photography in the 1920’s, so too must they learn to integrate this new technology and to use it to their advantage”.

Grier Torrence’s new website, www.griertorrence.com. showcases about 20% of his work. He continues to draw and paint during his tenure at Miss Porter’s School saying that his students are important to his work. “Artists need a community”, Torrence says, both for feedback and for inspiration. Transcendigital’s Barker agrees and adds, “As business people we need to invest back into our community. Our company is pleased to support efforts that can beautify the world while lending a helping hand to the people who make our community very special”.
